The Lakes Community - Powered By XMB Fire Destroys Piece Of History In Liberty
    LCNN - 1-5-2010 at 12:32 AM

Casey County News, Liberty - A Sunday morning fire in downtown Liberty has destroyed a piece of history as Sandy’s Grill went up in flames. The fire was discovered around 9 a.m. by Kay Brown, a dispatcher at the Casey County E-911 Dispatch Center, which is adjacent to the grill. Brown said she smelled smoke and looked out to see heavy smoke coming from the business, which was closed. The fire also destroyed King’s Obsolete Parts, an automotive supply business, located behind the grill. Casey County’s Family Support Office, located next door to Sandy’s, has also received damage, but at 1 p.m., looked as if firemen would be able to save that building. County Surveyor Richard Montgomery, whose surveying business is located three buildings north of Sandy’s, his employees and others carried several items out of his office as a precaution, while residents who live in the apartments above The Raspberry Zebra were also evacuated. Personnel and equipment from all of the county’s volunteer fire departments came in to assist Liberty fight the blaze in sub-zero temperatures. Campbellsville Fire Department also sent its ladder truck.

Right now, it is unknown what sparked the blaze. More information on the fire will be included in the print edition on Wednesday.CLICK HERE FOR THIS AND OTHER NEWS
