Accessing from Delta's inflight Go Go is a No Go for me!

Accessing the LC Forum from the Delta Airlines Go Go inflight service at 30,000 feet was a No Go for me last week.

I received a message "you are banned, and may not post, send U2U, edit posts" etc...

My suspicion this had something to do with the IP address of the Delta Airlines Go Go In Flight Network while in flight. Access was fine as soon as I logged in from the cell tower based service at CVG after landing.

Just wanted others to know in advance should you experience this...

You can !@#$%^& the spammers..

This "problem" will not likely go away and very likely will become more commonplace for folks who use cellular services to access various sites including the LC.com Forum.

As some of our Members have discovered, when you use cellular services, your "portal" into LC.com can be different every time (unlike a "Static" or a wired connection"). If your access is routed through a path that includes an IP address that has ever been used by a spammer, you will be blocked. (You can thank the spammer for that).

Just keep in mind that the message shown above does NOT indicate that you are banned nor is your equipment blocked. It is just the path that your signal has taken that is blocked. In many cases, especially if you are on the move, if you "try again later", you will be able to get right through.

One of the small jobs that I do here in the Bunker is help folks with problems like this so, if you get the message above, send me (or any of the Mods) an email (email is not blocked). In 90% of the time, I have been able to help. Maybe some of our Members will share their stories --and some have been really interesting.;)

It has happened to me twice this year. Thankfully it was corrected when I contacted the forum.

I have an AT&T Hot Spot for my internet service. The 4G is pretty good and my options are limited here at the Lake for internet service.

Thanks Cap'n Bob,
Yes, I presumed that was the root cause.

Thought it best to share it as the inflight airborne data links get more prevalent. It allows me to be productive while in flight.

I've even found a way to use pseudo text messaging via wi-fi on the plane as well.

Go Go Inflight services are expanding quickly, and since the costs have dropped dramatically ($9.95 coast to coast - with specials half of that) so I expect to see more folks using it with access from 30,000 feet.

With a 5 hour battery life on my laptop I get many emails, reports, expenses, and projects complete coast to coast, and of course the obligatory check in to LC.com ( used to ... but not now ). But risk of opening that IP for access is fully understood and recognized.

Thank you.

Capt., there just isn't enough time for me to share my stories of being the queen of bannedom!! And they really aren't that interesting, lol...all I can say is after sharing the same i.p. with the spammers, many times, many different ip's-- Capt.Bob, WW, E_Hillman and LCDC have been very helpful getting me back online. The key is to make sure you have email addresses listed somewhere you can access them off the forum, as you cannot go thru the member list once you get the banned message. Then look up your ip, write it down, and email it with your forum name so the powers that be can hook you back up again with the LC.com world....

Captain Bob

I am receiving the BANNED message on my cell phone in the Cincinnati area. Connecting to WiFi does let me through.
How do I find my IP address?

@#$%^& Trolls and Spammers!

I refer everyone to my post above:
It is not YOU who is banned nor is it any of YOUR EQUIPMENT! It is simply the IP address that you are attempting to connect from.

If you are using a cellphone, a mobile access device or a 3G/4G-enabled iPad or tablet, it gets more complicated since the carriers often route your "call" through a series of IP addresses. If any one of those is blocked, you will not have access. The only solution is to try again later when you might be routed differently.

Folks, everyone on in the Bunker Team hates it when even one Member cannot gain access. We feel about the trolls and spammers like the FBI feels about crazed bombers --line 'em up and shoot all of them.

That link that Spooner listed above has been posted several times. Use it to determine the IP address that you are currently accessing from. Send that number to me or any of the Admins or Mods and we will do what we can as soon as we can to restore your access. About 90% of the time we are successful.

NOTE: There are a TRILLION IP addresses around the world. In some cases, entire countries or regions are blocked but otherwise, IP's are blocked only if they are on the recognized Spammer Lists and, in a very few cases, for other reasons.
If you are in a McDonald's, at school or even at work and you get the message that you are "Blocked", look around.. Someone around you at some time has been an active troll or spammer from that location and caused enough complaints that that site is on a worldwide list.

As a follow-up, let me mention that we have about 8-10 Trolls/Spammers register or attempt to register every day. Some days it's double that and we have had as many as 42. Most of our security is automatic but it still requires occasional human intervention. It's a nuisance but protecting our Forum, our Members and the database are a primary concern.

Much has been posted about Trolls and Spammers but it's not just Forums like ours that are under attack as this article from yesterday's Lexington Herald-Leader points out:

“A troll is someone who attacks others online for fun. They seek attention and look to wreak havoc just for kicks. Often, their perceived self-worth is tied to how much attention they get for their actions. “

Thanx Spoonbill for that info. It shows my IP is listed from the Washington DC area. No wonder you have placed a ban on that block of IP addresses.

I have my IR eye on you Jolly Roger.
Are we going to perform any testing over the water this summer?

Hey Aft-Forever,

Greetings from the middle of nowhere between S Tucson and Phoenix,

just spent the week down here on the AZ Border with Mexico. Your WALRSS HD is kicking tail out to 9 miles on human IoI's and the customers are pleased.

Got even better results up on the Great Lakes last week.

We need to have an "official" biz mtg on the lake.

Yep we need to get a two axis gyrostabilized gimbal up on the JR this summer to keep an eye on those skinny dipping parties up on Harmon Creek....

Gonna have two Pentagon General Officers down early August so we need to get a demo set up.

Gonna be heading down to LC mid May...

Hope all is well with you and the CE family!
