idiots on the ramp

It was rookie day at pumpkin creek ramp. That's all I have to say about that.:mad::mad::mad:

It's pretty sad when one person can load a 31ft Formula faster than ten people can load a 25ft pontoon. Seriously?

But I was the youngest on the ramp. I guess maybe they started later in life? There was even one dude...oh nevermind.

Hey now! I single handily load/unload my toon and would wager I'm faster than most people launching with 2 crew members. ;)

Ramp watching is great entertainment. Wonder if the golf cart gang still goes down to the Conley ramp on Sunday evenings?

Now if you really want some entrainment, watch the boaters on the ICW trying to dock when the tide current is coming in.

Some are just better educated than others at the ramp.

Some have to gain a little experience to fully understand what they're doing wrong. It will come to them eventually. ;)

^^^^^Man the guy told me to put the truck in till the rear bumper was under water and the boat would be easy to get off the trailer. :P:P

Maybe there should be a boat loading competition.

There are some that will never get it. Saw a couple of boats pull all the way down the ramp to the water, then started getting everything together. Those types will never get it.

Those people probably own the lake and ramp. Just ask them.

I feel very fortunate....

I was never really a rookie. Dad had a 10' 5hp boat when I was 5 years old, and we went up through the years from there.

I guess i was a rookie at 5, but luckily dad wasn't, so I never really had the rookie slow launch.

I did forget to take the straps off once or twice, but what VETERAN has NOT done that :)

Side bar story...

A few weeks ago I was waiting to launch and there were 2 nice young ladies trying to launch their boat. i was waiting and waiting and ... (You get teh idea). I was 'complaining' in my car all the while. My wife finally says to me "Maybe they need assistance? Why dont you go down and see if you can help instead of 'complaining' "

So of course, I did. Or ... I would not have heard the end of it.

I walk up to them, "Did you forget to take off the back straps?" the lady gets up from the drivers seat, looks right at me, pauses for 2 seconds..... "Yup"

They pull forward, I take them off, they were launched 5 minutes later. :)

Just wanted to share my story, I laughed all day, knowing I have done it 'ONE' time.

Why don"t you just rent a dock, then you will only have to deal with it a couple of times a year?

He's been there done that. He'd also have to have a lift, so trailering the boat save him at least $2500.00/yr. So he will probably put up with alot of idiots at the ramp for that.

Worst weekend at the Pumpkin Creek Ramp is always Sunday after Poker Run, not because of the idiots but the number of boats leaving the lake, starting at day break till about 2pm.

Dang transom straps got me just this past weekend. Thankfully i have never forgotten the plug(yet). I once witnessed a guy panic when he realized he had forgotten his plug. Ran the boat plum up the ramp mangled his prop and probably did some other damage as well.

As wha-pow said, I was a slip renter for 7 yrs. Now that I have a boat I can trailer, it's just not cost effective. This was probably my 10th time loading this yr at that ramp, but this was the first time I've encountered the chaos. Musta been the nice weather we had last weekend that brought out all the fools.
