Power Line Spraying???

Not a 100% Lake issue, but since I see it on the way to the lake I thought I'd ask our diverse group about it.

On the way from Nancy to WCM, the power company has sprayed the power line path with "?????", killing off everyting in the path.

How is this done. Some of the areas have very rough land, and some of the trees are to tall to reach by hand.

So even a boom truck would have a problem getting to everything.

Is this done by Helicopter?

What is used?

The first 5 pages of the following Vegetation Management Plan
document explains what they use and how they apply the herbicide.

If vegetation is more than 12 feet high, it must be cut down rather
than using a herbicide. Thus aerial application is not required.

Many years ago it used to be done by helicopter. I don't think they use the copters anymore or at least I haven't seen any in a long while. Too expensive I guess. Anybody know for sure?

My first helicopter ride was with a power line sprayer in an old Bell-47G. He needed a place to land and refuel. My dad had the perfect field and when they asked him for permission he said sure...if you take the kids up for a ride. :)

This seems not to apply in the Cave Springs Rd. area, since some of the sprayed trees are more than 12'. So how did they do it?

I've wondered the same thing GT-- kinda funny you rarely or never see anyone actually applying the "agent orange", must be driving along the roadside late at night or hiking along the big power lines real quiet.:o

We saw them spraying. One was a pick up truck with a big tank and a guy standing in the back spraying as the truck slowly moved along.
Another was a tractor type with a big tank with someone spraying.

We saw the tractors doing the spraying, very efficient, but I would not want to be the guy doing the spraying!

Very interesting... Some of the area they would have to have a heck of a spray gun to get to and cover everything.

As you stated Faubush... I wouldn't want that job..... the upside.. you could make a few million with a 3 eyed kid. :P:P

I believe evolution was in action as these guys were heavily exposed to the pesticide, and might be second generation sprayers.

Heehehe...I get it:D

My only complaint is that I wish the power company would announce beforehand whenever they plan on mowing or spraying. Every time they come they knock down my fence to get in...and every time I have to rebuild it. If they'd give a heads up I'd make sure they could get in without having to break in....really annoying.

I kinda got a feeling that they don't want you to know ahead of time, might slow them down from killing everything in their plans.....some of the prettiest roadways and landscape in Kentucky have been poisoned and butchered beyond what is necessary for maintenance and preventing blackouts.

The sprayers are contractors, contact the utility that has the right of way on you, and they should fix it.

I had a problem with some work contractors did for EKPower, and once I got to talk to the right person, they were here and took care of it by the end of the same week..

They probably don't give a heads up out of concern for the physical safety of the workmen and their equipment...you know, from flying projectiles and the like:cool:

That glow is the observation tower the Martians built with solar lights.

Yep G.T. that would be Danny and me, sitting in our overlook watching the boats go by. We were wondering if the lights could be seen from the lake.!!

I haven't noticed your lights from the lake or the front desk of our houseboat.. the lights I was refering to are the lights in the WCM parking lot.
