After reading these posts, pulling anchor and leaving was probably the best response.
Returning fire from an open area of water, like a "sitting duck", trying to see the enemy behind several hundred stationary trees and rocks to hide
behind doesn't seem like a favorable scenario to me.
Unfortunately, the victims here would most likely be the ones sited for having firearms aboard their boats. In addition, due to the location, even if
the LE had responded, the ones on shore would have been long gone before they got there. I doubt the LE has the man power or resources to station an
Officer in the location to wait till they return to catch them. Unless someone shoots their mouth off or comes forth as an eye witness, these guys
most likely will never be caught.
I would be the first in line to cast my vote to allow us to carry firearms aboard our boats. Our Constitution states our rights to bear arms and
protect ourselves. Unfortunately, our Government has found ways to pass laws to adjust those rights. I am certain there are those individual LE
Officers who feel the same way. They don't make the laws or have to agree with them, they just have to enforce them.
I wouldn't call leaving the area "turning tail and running", I would just view that as good judgement.
