what happened to lakecumberland.com?

The new website is nice and all that but it looks like that lakecumberland.com is no more.

Just realized it is ilikelakecumberland.com now.

It was a great ride Jerry, not so sure you would approve of all the commercialism however. Looks like someone sold out to da man. Definitively not your style for sure dude!

Yeah, I'm missin the links to the webcams....which I guess is really no big deal since half of them were OOS anyway and it'll take ages for them to get fixed.

The links to the web cams are still there under lake info at the top of the page. Like you said, a lot of them are out of service, but the ones that are working can still be seen.

Relax, it looks like you showed up a little late to the party. It was mentioned in another thread, but LakeCumberland.com is still here. In fact, if you look at the address bar, you'll see that's where the forum is still sitting. The rest of the website is on ilovelakecumberland.com temporarily while some server issues are being worked out.

Just to clear up a few things, lakecumberland.com was never owned by Jerry. It was owned by David Davenport who used it primarily to promote his real estate business. His long term goal was to let local businesses to promote as well. Unfortunately, they both passed before David's plan could full come to full fruition.

The site content is pretty much the same as it ever was, just in a different package. So, if by "commercialization" you mean there are ads on the site, perhaps you have already forgotten all the Google and real estate ads that were all over the place on the previous version of the site.

If anything, the new lakecumberland.com is less commercialized, because now it is allowing local businesses to have an opportunity to get their businesses seen instead of all the random national Google ads that littered the past site.

So, nobody has sold out to "da man" as you put it. Just trying to get the bills paid.

Maybe I'm only speaking for myself, but aren't there others out there that would maybe pitch in a few dollars to hire someone to fix these webcams?? I know that someone out there can do this, and I understand not on a volunteer basis, but would you step up and say something?? If several or more of us would pitch in a little money and hire a tech, we might even get ALL the cameras up and working. Rick (lakeman) has asked for assistance for the 3 Grider Hill webcams here on the forum and I've been backing him up on here too-- somebody who can do this or knows someone-- please give him a call-- 1-866-387-5501

Okay, about the webcams around the lake....

It seems as if more webcams are down than ever before. This is not a lakecumberland.com technical issue. The marinas around the lake host these webcams and it's their responsibility to keep them running. They belong to the respective marinas. LakeCumberland.com just links to them from their websites.

So if their cameras are down, we can't get the broadcast, and neither can you. If one of your favorite spots is missing from the webcam page, call or email your local marina and tell them to fix their webcam and we will gladly link back to it.

Oh yeah, most of us are aware that the webcams are operated by the docks...I just didn't know we still had the links up after the changes. As for soaks idea...I can't conceive of donating $$ to the marinas who are already raking in the big $$. I think the marinas owe it to their renters to get the cams back up. A lot of people pay good money to store their boats there...and IMHO, it is comforting to be able to least see the dock and the current weather when you can't be there in person. JMHO of course.

Yeah Brian, I think they have the resources to fix the cameras, I think they just need to be made aware that there is a substantial audience out there that really likes to see them and it would be beneficial for them to keep those running.

The operating cost for the webcams should be minimal in most cases unless there an issue getting broadband to the cameras.

Thanks LCNN,

Better late to a party than not at all eh?

Thanks for setting me straight and I hope the bills do get paid. However it seems to me that without the members of the forum, and all of the discussions that lakecumberland.com would just be a bunch of real estate listings. Sort of a symbiotic relationship wouldn't you say?

I see your point on the "donations" to fix the webcams....but what about the marina, like Grider Hill, that has already been asking for tech help-- I don't think they asked for a volunteer-- nobody will even step up and offer to assist for a fee either it seems. And by the way, they do have one webcam operating that this site isn't linked to. Can I assume that maybe some of the marinas' webcams aren't getting fixed due to outdated equipment and nobody willing to fix what is there?? Maybe money has absolutely nothing to do with this. Maybe someone can enlighten me that these cameras suck (technologically speaking) and aren't worth fixing but just need replacing??? We may be the only handful of lakers that actually even care about them, so it's just not a priority either way. Lots of maybes, I know.....

You're right Relax, the forum pays a vital role in keeping the site going because it brings a tremendous amount of traffic to the site.

The main goal of lc.com was to make it THE Lake Cumberland Directory. Where lake oriented businesses could be found by visitors, along with information about boating, fishing, vacationing, weather and all the events going on in the area.

It's a work in progress. But the forum is kind of the heart of the whole site. Having lakers keep in touch and communicating with each other is key to the entire site.
