Lexington to State Dock/Jamestown, quickest route?

Had a discussion today with a co-worker and wanted to get the boards opinion.

For all my years of going to Cumberland I've always gone 127 S the entire way whether I was going to Jamestown or SD.

Co-worker argued today that going 75 South and cutting across is much quicker. I can see some of his points such as, you don't get delayed by much slower traffic on 2 lane 127, from anything from Amish buggies to farm machinery.

Thoughts?

I have travelled from Northern KY to Jamestown over the past 20 years.

75 south to Mt. Vernon to 80 thru Somerset and onto Jamestown is approximately 190 miles (driveway to driveway) and approximately 3 hours.

75 south to New Circle to the Bluegrass Pkwy to 127 and south to Jamestown is approximately 180 miles but still 3 hours due to the slower travel times.

I really enjoy the 127 trip but my wife hates it as she gets a little car sick/motion sickness. Either way is a win-win cause we're at the lake.

Never tried that way.

I go..

27 South to 34, through downtown Danville, 127 South the rest of the way.

Yep, 75 to Mt Vernon and over seems to be the fastest way on average from Lexington to Jamestown.

US27 South to 34 to Danville/127 and south is a good way but for me normally ends up taking more time

US27 to 80 and over is about the same maybe faster depending on the time of day and who you get behind on the 2 lane.

Like I said for me on average 75 to Mt Vernon wins out especially if towing a boat.
If it is 2am I normally like to take the 80/27 route.
From time to time I still go through Danville.

For you it depends on where you live in Lexington. If you live near Hamburg 75 is a no brainer.
If you live down towards Nicholasville I'd try one of the other two routes. :)

127 is a few miles shorter, but I-75 is just as fast. IMO there's also a safety factor to be considered of traveling a 2 lane road through several farming and congested areas vs a 4-6 lane interstate.

I travel both depending on the mood and time of day. 127 is typically 15 to 30 minutes slower. I did discover that you don't want to take 127 during harvest time. A lot of hay wagons running down that time of year :D

I drive 127 every time I go down and I live on the Nortwest side of Danville. It takes me about one hour to drive to Jamestown ramp and the only trouble I ever have is from Russell Springs to the Jamestown. Some of them people down there refuse to go over 25 MPH in the 55 MPH zone and it can take 20 minutes to them seven miles or whatever it is. I never see any hay wagons or anything like that. The one exception is the stupid yard sale. I travel then only very early or very late.

Agree with everyone. Pick your poison and drink up. Now.. If you want to debate SD to south side of Somerset ... 90 or the parkway...... Same thing. Pick your poison. Decisions decisions.
