Towing does not bother me, I trailer a 35' trailer pretty often with MUCH more weight in it than a 28' boat and trailer. Diesel costs are about the
same towing that setup as trailering the lighter weight cuddy cabin I have.
However with the wider beam boats especially I would definitely consider storage options around one of the less steep ramps. If course I don't get
down to the lake every weekend thus a slip just does not make much sense to me at this stage of my life.
Point taken on the salt water boats, I have not really been able to get a full answer on that with any back ground. The only ones I was considering
had low hours.
Does Cincy have Volvo shops? It is not a bad drive for me...
How does one tell a Vacu flush head just looking in a picture of a boat?
Nearly anything you can't say in the open feel free to e-mail, U2U, facebook, or whatever your preference to me.

...another thing. the more and more I have thought about it I have really been leaning more towards the 9-9.5 beam boats. Most seem to think I can
get away with towing them and in the pictures they SURE look a LOT more roomy in the cabin.

I just noticed this has a Volvo... My mechanic friends tell me this is not a good Volvo area. Parts are twice as much and most of the mechanics
around our area are MerCruiser friendly. Based on these conversations, I would discourage Volvo powertrains. |
On the other hand. I found my Volvo Pentas easy to work on for regular maintenance. But in 7 yrs and 350 hrs I owned it, I never had to have anything
major done. Yes it is hard to find people to work on it, but they are more reliable than Merc's, IMO

Y not get a pontoon if you want such a wide beam?
I like the idea of a big cruiser on the lake but what I don't like is the constant rocking of boats with hulls or the claustrophobic feeling of being
inside one. Toons rock a heck of allot less, are above the waterline and less claustrophobic feeling.
Secondly, I can speak for older Volvo systems in that they are built like tanks. But be ready to spend if you have to do maintenance on them and you
can't do it yourself.
I agree with the salt water trashers 100 percent. Having grown up on the Chesapeake, I'm pretty schooled on the harsh environment. Unless you've been
around it and know what areas to look at, good advice is to steer clear...

I know towing doesn't bother you. In fact, I strangely look at it as part of the fun. What I think you'll find is the stress will be greater towing
something that wide and wondering if some over zealous Trooper will find the need to pull you over. Another is the launching, loading, and just plain
handling a larger boat after a long day on the water. Looking in the mirrors to see if your trailer wheels are still turning or if you just wiped out
some one's mailbox, you get my drift... I think others will chime in here about there's just something said about just driving down in any vehicle (or
bike) you choose and stepping onto an awaiting boat sitting in a berth already prepped and ready to go. Late at night, all you have to do is carry a
few provisions, pull back the cover, and lay yourself down to sleep. You might find some of the slip rental may outweigh the cost of fuel, wear and
tear of your rig, or just plain additional maintenance.
Like I said, I give it maybe a season and you'll be calling old Fred or Charlie and seeing what they have available for you.

Yes, Beam is very advantageous when down in the cabin. Especially the mid cabin. BTW, actually most Cruiser Cabins are Mid Cabins, we just commonly
refer to the Cruisers as AFT cabins.

 I still
live in KY, it's just that it's only 10 blocks from Ahia so I guess you might say I could classify close to that group. The only problem when you
live in NKY is that the Ahia people don't accept you and neither will the KY people. Kinda like a Neutral Zone if you know what I mean. (Hum-mm..."spell check" doesn't recognize "Ahia"...what's up with that?)

I am just not a pontoon type person. I like the cabin layout of a cruiser and they are generally more mobile than most "cabin" style pontoons. I
have a feeling in the right cruiser I am going to have a much more stable ride on choppy water or a pop up storm.

LOL, that is fine with me. I get something out of it since someone out there might know of a perfect boat for me I have not seen plus i get all kinds
of knowledge from other boaters like Nearly etc.
And the whole group gets to laugh at the boats I am looking at Uh I mean the
whole group gets to benefit from the discussion and shared knowledge.

AND we ALL get to share in the "maiden voyage-raft up- tieup-breakin" party that E will be hosting sometime this summer. Probably around
Shinbone.
Not been a good family raft up in a long time. This is a golden opportunity.
Details are sketchy at this point.
WHATEVER floats your boat Dude!

Not to beat a dead horse.....The boat doesn't have to be "on salt water" to suffer the effects of salt water. My family lives on NC coast...and just
the salty air corrodes lots of things...especially electrical connections. A five year old salt water boat is like a 10 year old lake boat maybe even
worse. (IMO).
Storage unit is the way to go.

...still waiting on someone to send me a link to a boat that I will look at and just pull the trigger on:
25k range
2000 or newer
26-29' Cruiser with Trailer
Leaning towards 9' -9.5' beams but anything over 8.5 would be considered.
Want to be around that 200 hour mark - would go higher on a bigger block.
I have found some but believe it or not some if these people are hard to get a response from...
ps, I still love the windows on the Bayliner 2655 and some of the Chaparrals. So one of those in good shape with the right hours and right price
would be it. There are some out there but I am just having trouble getting responses. Sooo close yet so far away.

You seen this one yet? Fresh water MO boat. Maybe a little under powered for you, but an '03, 26' (with windows) 9.5 wide, in your price range...no
trailer though.

Yep, the price point was too high since it would require buying a trailer.
Here is one I was just checking out online,
http://www.poweryachtsinternational.com/Vehicle/location-Flo... (claims fresh water)
http://www.boattrader.com/listing/2000-Sea-Ray-260-Sundancer...
Click the poweryacht link above and look at the pics... Looks pretty nice. I had been shying away from 2000s and was sticking with the 01s, 02s,
etc. but this looks nice and many of you seem to think these are boats that would hold up better.
Has everything on my list except the wider beam and windows I was liking more on the Bayliners.
