Honestly, I wouldn't let it hold me back on this boat.

Couple of thoughts on the "strap on":
1)E doesn't have a generator now, this is only a bonus. He can even use it at home in the event of an ice storm.
2)It does have shore power connections and I would betcha if the little one is on board E and Co. will be overnighting in a slip at Conley.
3)E can keep the gen in his truck and if he deems it necessary go pick it up and strap er on. Pick up an ice cream at Conley while your there.
4)There is definitely the saftey concerns mentioned but E is a "farm boy" I'm sure he has been hit before with methane gas, CO2, and a host of other toxic chemicals, he can handle it and he sounds like he knows how to be safe most of the time.

I still think this is the most boat for the money so far...I just hope like the others have said it not an Ebay scam. Lots of those out there.

Added: DANG..now I'm gettin the Bayliner message! :D

This is a nice boat. Navigate the options and specs. links.

http://bayliner.com/page.aspx/pageid/132731/pmid/276224/285-...

Wow! Man I hope he jumps on this one soon. That's a lot of boat for the money.
This is almost like the 2000 Cobalt MarineAssist had listed yesterday. Sad part is it sold within hours of listing and that could happen here if he waits. You can ask him to hold it until you inspect it...BUT... put yourself in the seller's shoes...E says he wants it but has to have survey/inspection...some guy calls and offers him full cash price no inspection no nothing.
E would be very pi$$ed but he gets his deposit back and he eventually gets over it. Its about the MONEY people! :D

BUMMER E! (sorry but I got to laugh a little) it was too good to be true. Don't get discouraged!
Jabezboy warned you about them Chicago, IL people. :D

Ya know if you managed to snag the VIN number off the listing you might be able to locate the real owner and make an offer. Its a stretch but stranger things have happened.

This is an interesting thread if nothing else. :D

Like the song says, "Promises, promises, that's all I ever get. That's all I ever get."

I'm just sayin'....

Now on to a new song:

Sorry E. I'm actually bumming for ya. I was hoping for YOU, but ....
my granddaddy and daddy have nearly always been right about that one: if sounds too good to be true, it usually is (unfortunately, for me, that usually occurred with women, not purchases). :):(

Not a good way to head into the weekend. I will be thinking of you and prayin' for a few good listings for ya to pop up this weekend.

Hang in there E! That dawg bitin' your arse usually gets tired and lets go.

Man. I got that lump in the throat for you Buddy. Like someone already said if it's too good to be true, it probably is.

I wish you hadn't had that problem with Cincinnati. They have bent over backwards for me in the past...I couldn't have wanted a better sales experience or the follow up. I am really bummed they went down hill.

Yep it sounds like they were at one time GREAT and then sold and now are not getting very good reviews.

I am still recovering from depression from this afternoon. I just invited Jim over and he is helping me chill out with come caffeine free coke. I too kinda knew better hence why I was looking for Marine Assist to step in and guide me on it. He told me it would not hurt to hit the buy now button and to make sure to NOT send any account, personal info. When I went to do that I saw it was removed and the "seller" account was gone.

Yep I have seen the 02 in Rogers MN, the "custom built" trailer looks a bit odd. Is the front of the boat strapped down? Hmmmm That has kept me back on that one.

The 02 in Fairhaven, MI looks nice but the price was holding me back while I was looking at the one in Georgia (plus note it does not have any outdrive pics).

The last one you posted is the exact same boat as the Georgia boat but it was a good bit more than I was looking at the GA boat. Sometimes I think I could just get the Georgia boat and go ahead and put a new drive on it. lol

But I'm holding that thought till I hear where I am on the SeaRay Marine Assist has been talking to. Supposedly the guy is to send more pics that are recent and not two years old this weekend.

Just a note, each of those boats have been on the market since Feb. Kinda concerning.

Also the lowest I could get the one in PA down to was 26,000 the 00 SeaRay is that low already and both need a trailer. ;) I can't pull up the SeaRay add right now as it has expired.I think Marine Assist was going to call them today or tomorrow.

Whats fun here is that many of us have gone through what your going through, well not THAT MUCH but close, and most here have good tips for you especially the one about the strap-on.............

Im going to say a couple things then I'll get out of the way.

Strap-on: Besides all that has been said about it, there is one more bad effect, added pressure on the swim platform and support braces and gelcoat/fiberglas bolt holes chipping/stripping out. Its not a good idea.

Searching: On my last boat search, I was doing close to what you are, trying to buy a bigger faster newer boat for little money and within 5 miles bla bla bla. There was a really nice but neglected (not used in 3 years)boat sitting for sale in a slip down the row from me. I looked it over, climbed all through it several times but kept talking myself out of it because of these boats online all around in 5 states and those great deal Florida boats..... and I still had my old boat so no big rush....... well after 2 trips to Florida, a couple to Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Kentucky and one to Wisconsin, thinking about going to Lake Powell for one, sitting on the computer until I'm near blind now, 172 calls on boats, getting shipping, mechanic and survey quotes and looking looking looking until I could puke....... A year later, I went back to that old boat down the way from me, pushed off the potatoes growing on the canvas, opened the windows for air, made sure it started and ran down the creek a little bit and ........... BOUGHT it...... Right there 300 feet away from my old slip.

Yes, I've cleaned every thread, worked on, changed out, added to several times in the last 5 years, but its a he!! of an old boat and if you axe anyone that knows me, they will back that up ........ or else.

Crappy Sellers: I understand not wanting someone to profit off you because they didn't want to work overtime at closing time. OK, it happens all the time. Even our restr, open til 9pm but dont try to buy anything at 1/4 til because they want to go home. I get it both sides. One time on a new house (to me) I disliked a mortgage company sooooooooooooooooo much after closing, that within 2 months I had managed to refinance it to another place to prove my point............and it only cost me $2800.00 to do it. Now its been a few years and I "think" Im getting to the break even point, hahahahahaha Boy did I teach them a lesson.

Remember this and eveything well be OK........ The first one who says a price looses, the road the he11 is paved with good intensions and never squat with your spurs on.

OK E??

Pay It Forward: Help others on the lake, tow safely or call professionals for help. You might need it someday too.

I'm not starving and there are enough fish in the sea to throw a few back ;)

As for the generator. It was a Honda 2000 model. Those do not weigh much at all as you can carry them with one hand. I would sure like to think a swim platform is not going to have any stress from on of those and I have heard of several people using them to run their AC at night. I have a 13000 at home and I can pop in two large window unit air conditions, run the refrigerator, the deep freeze, a vacum, lamps, TVs, computers, etc. on it with no issue. I would like to think 2000 watts could run a boat AC. I would guess to run the stove or somthing else though you would need to shut one off to use the other but don't most of the stoves also run off of another fuel as well?

I'm still searching and I keep hearing people telling me to hurry up but I am going to hurry up and wait if I have to. I could pull the trigger right now on the one in Georgia and have the boat layout I want I just would have a questionable outdrive (unless a surveyor gave it a clean bill of health which the broker said HE would pay the surveyor fee if it didn't) Marine Assist is looking at another boat for me now which could be the one. The Craigs List ad has expired but I am guessing it is still for sale. I don't have a slip and to walk down the docks at Lake Cumberland is a 2-4 hour drive depending on which dock I went to walk. If anyone knows of one in my range at the lake feel free to let me know about it. If I show up at business hours to look at a 30k boat (don't have to buy it that day just wanted to see it) which would take about 10 minutes tops one would expect to get to see it. Don't mind being hurried, just wanted to see it. And in that case it was the attitude of the person. If I am looking at a boat and someone is running a offer back and I have not been told anyone is viewing the boat I expect that I am working on the deal on that boat. Then to be told, whoops sorry we just sold it and someone was looking at it the other day (THE SAME DAY we ran a credit app on you and found you were qualified then I get a bit ticked since they knew if I let them do that I was serious.

It has not cost me any extra $ to not use one of the place of businesses I have disagreed with. In fact other feedback I have received has supported that it might have saved me some. I don't mind someone making money off me at all. That has NEVER been the issue. The issue has been people leaving early with someone there and business hours to spare (no one had to go cook a dish and no one had to wait for me to eat). I TOO have owned a business (that was Very profitable but seasonal and right now don't have the bandwidth to run) I TOO have been a manager in retail. And when someone walked in the door with 1 minute to spare I stayed a long as they needed and at one place in particular I won store of the month 65% of the time against about 800 other stores. So I might know a little about customer service. And maybe that makes me expect more out of others that are in sales. They are the ones cutting off their nose to spite their face. If I don't get a boat for another 5 years I does not hurt me any. I can rent one for each trip down and still spend less than I would on buying one. lol. I just "like" to have one of my own is all. Same reason I own my own home and don't rent a car. I take my time with each of them and yep there are realtors and car lots I will not deal with but there are still plenty more and some of which that can count getting a first shot on repeat business from me as I am a very loyal person.

I have learned a lot from this thread however some of the suggestions is like telling a college kid they should eat out at a 5 star restaurant every day since that is the best food and service when they could eat out at Wendys and have just as satifying of a meal for less. lol For me I like somewhere in the middle but can just as easily go either way depending on the day and mood.

Some of the suggestions like getting a big block have stuck with me and I am reviewing those boats first but I could end up with a 5.7. I still can't believe how many boats (of all brands) over 26' have a 5.0 in them...

I appreciate everyone feed back on boats, what to look for and what to not look for. However I will make my decision when I am ready. If that bothers anyone they don't have to click on this thread. I personally have had a lot of fun with it. Really it is very due a hijack from Lock5 or someone to lighten the mood a bit. lol

E, you put it out there and you got 15 pages so far of responses. A lot in gest and I think a lot of good intentions.

Either way, I think you have planted the seed and a lot of people will be looking out for a boat for you. When the season gets into swing, a lot will be around the water and sometimes a sweet deal comes up right under your nose.

The story comes to mind when I bought my 1990 260. I had been admiring that boat all summer. One evening we were all sitting around the transit docks at Conley and with the influence of a few adult beverages, the guy said under his breath "I think I'll sell this boat". I looked at the Wife and she looked at me and we both said "sold". The next morning he looked over at me and asked "did I sell you my boat last night" I responded "yes sir, to me". He responded something like "did I mention a price?" Heh heh...Well the door was open but I honestly responded with what we discussed and he seemed OK with it. Then it went something like this "I may have to discuss this with the Wife". Well, that old lump in the throat started and I looked at the Wife and said "we may not see this guy the rest of the summer".. Low and behold, about 4 weeks later, up comes the 260 and he accepted my offer. The Wife and I had one of those "oh crap" moments but gathered our composure and agreed to where were going to meet to transfer the title. There have been moments when both the Wife and Myself have looked at each other and say how much we miss that boat.

So my point E. Sometimes things just fall into place. You don't always have to be looking hard to find something. I would take some leisurely days and do just what others have mentioned. Get up, pack a cooler and just walk the docks. There are a lot of "cherry" boats at LC just ready for the picking. They may or not be for sale at that moment but if you show some interest, one of those guys may have a change of heart and drop one in your lap when you least expect it.

If you are not in a hurry, let time run it's course. Don't think you have to travel all around the Country to try to meet some deadline. LC will always be there, it ain't gonna pack up and move. Now some of the great people you may want to be around like WW and yours truly may be dead and gone, but LC will still be there.

As I post this, close to 7,500 people have viewed this thread. I call out to all you boaters when out and about messing one the water this summer to keep this thread in mind. Somewhere out there is a vessel just waiting for E.
