Anyone know how to fix a tach that sticks. It works just have to tap it for it to go back to lower rpm.

Thanks

Have you checked that the glass and bezel are on properly? is the needle loose and draggingon the face or the inside of the glass? Check for loose screws in the back.

Mine was doing that. Turns out it was a loose ground wire.

Drill a 1/64" hole in the bottom right of the gauge, problem solved.

When you turned a motor the revs I did... "MARINE ASSIST" was a must

I would check your wiring on the back of the gauge and in particular, the GRAY wire (both at the
tach and at the engine Signal Generator (Stator) on the engine.

Remember, many Tachs will not fall back to zero when the engine is stopped. Instead they will remain
at the last RPM before the ignition switch is turned off. A loose connection at the gauge might cause
the same indication until you tap the face of the gauge.
Good Luck.

9000revs mine are not fluid filled. I wasn't saying what you said was wrong at all and I am sorry if you took it that way. I have fixed a lot of things with little tricks that I have learned from others and I am glad that you offered your fix. I was just saying that I dream of having a boat that would need fluid filled tachs. The factory tachs on my cruiser will stick in the spring. When the air is cool and the sun warms the gauge it will stick. Problems goes away when the days start getting warmer or I put the top up and keep the sun off them. I have owned this boat since 2004 and it has been that way every spring. Tachs are not that important on my boat because the props I run will never let the motors over rev.

Thanks everyone i will give them all a try. Gonna clean the connections first then make sure all connections are tight then try the hole drilling tip. Might be a while but i will let you all know what works.

I had a similar problem and cleaning the terminals didn't fix it. It wasn't until Icut the old ones off and reterminated that the problem was resolved. My boat has been in saltwater and that may be a different situation that what you have. It doesn't take but a few minutes to do the work and be certain. just what worked for me.

I did notice that when i took the dash off and tilted it forward the guage was alot more responsive. I think the needle is dragging some how.

Any time you tilt the dash you are probably moving the wires. This could cause a loose or bad connection to make and the tach work for a brief moment.
