How is your Bass fishing at laurel been?

Hello guys and girls,Long time fisherman here but just now starting back fishing after 8 years without a boat. Finally was able to pick up a 19ft Javelin and i am ready to hit the lake.

So how has the bass fishing been,Have you caught some nice ones?I made a trip down a few weeks ago to test the boat out and threw a couple shakey heads and tubes with lackluster success so to speak.

Just looking to get some Hint's and help on learning to fish the lake again and what works.I know us fisherman are secretive and do not want to give up all the details but any you could i would appreciate it .And hope to see you all on the water .

Welcome to the forum ls1chris. Us Laurel folks like to see more Laurel folks on here. I am glad that you have gotten to return to the lake after 8 long years.

Sorry, I would be no help to answer your fishing question.

I taked with someone last week that said they were killing the smallies by drifting minnows.

Along the same line does anyone do much crappie fishing on Laurel. If so when do they generally start hitting ???

Welcome the forum crafty and Is1chris. Wish I could help ya out, but I dont do much fishing when im at the lake. All I know is that when they have bass tournaments on the lake, almost every boat heads towards the river. Maybe has something to do with the diminished water clarity in that area.

Also, the forest service collects christmas trees after the holidays and they drop them in designated areas around the lake to create nesting areas and that sort of thing for the fish. Im pretty sure that they have maps available that mark these areas....so you may want to check that out.

(At least that is what I have heard. Somebody correct if I am wrong)

Welcome to the maddness. Does that Javelin have an ls1 pushing it?

When you turned a motor the revs I did... "MARINE ASSIST" was a must

Crappie

Crafty, I have heard of some folks crappie fishing on Laurel. I honestly believe there is a pretty healthy population of crappie in this water, but most likely...anyone who has the intel will not openly share it. (Has been my experience on Kentucky Lake)

As for your particular question: the primary crappie bite (like most freshwater fish) kicks in the most when the fish begin their spawn. I have found the females move to secondary creeks and shallows once the water temp hovers between 52-54. (Without much fluctuation) The males typically begin moving in at the 55+ degree point. You can also find crappie in an aggressive feeding pattern if you know the lake well enough to know which "highways" are traveled during this period. I do not know Laurel at all....but this time next year I should be able to answer a little better.

Honestly, the above is what I have experienced at Kentucky Lake, so things here may differ. My grandfather used to say that water temp didnt matter...just watch the dogwoods...once they start to bloom, the crappie are running in. Not very scientific, but I will tell you, the man could fill a freezer with crappie each spring/fall.

Maybe this will help you...maybe not. As I learn more about this lake, I dont mind sharing.
