CampinMan: Thanks for all your trouble and interest in this project. I only wish that the COE could have talked to some of the people using the area about the plan, could have saved some money there. One thing I wish they would do is put a light further down the ramp. It gets awful dark down at the water, especially now.
Again thanks for all your work.

Thanks CampinMan for being the voice of many concerned. It is good to hear that this did not have to start in a bureauacratic snarl.
We should all be encouraged the COE was compelled to meet with a citizen with a concern. I hope this gesture materializes into action.
Good work and thank you!

You know I think CampinMan would deserve this award even if he didn't go to bat with the COE over Cumberland Point. Some people just seem to do the right things and he is one of them.

I also want to thank the COE for listening to CampinMan and the rest of you guys! At least they listened and may make some good changes. (They should have asked for user input first but that's another story.) In some countries you would be shot for even suggesting they were wrong!

Anyway awarded to CampinMan for his efforts above and beyond the call of duty to help other boaters and users of Lake Cumberland.
Salute!

You are all very welcome. I really hope that these changes get implemented. The COE emailed me and said that he would keep me (us) in the loop.

Thanks for the award WW! I will print it and carry it with me everywhere..:P:P:P

A big hearty atta-boy to CampinMan!Some revision to the new work at the parking area has occured! It may not be perfect but it is a whole bunch better.

Most all of the suface curbing has been removed and the spaces were made longer in the center.
The spaces on the Faubush side, while oriented oppiste of the way previous, will be significantly easier to manuver into whether backing into them or pulling into them. It seems it would be better if they were oriented to enter coming up the ramp but this will work.

A bunch of the evergreen trees that were on the bank (left side of the ramp going down) have been removed significantly improving visibility from my favaorite bench perch looking out over the water.

The 4 spaces on either side of the ramp are still not striped though which may cause a bit of a free-for-all.

All in all a vast improvement to the first round of improvements. Thank you CampinMan and Corps of Engineers! ;)

Thats Great news! I haven't been there for 3 weeks but its good to hear they made progress before Memorial day. CampinMan showed some excellent negotiation skills to get it into the Corps sights.

Lets hope they move on the striping soon. :D

btw, if you use this ramp be extra careful of the loss of the safety curb on the right side of the ramp going downhill. The recent asphalt paving eliminated the curb height.

I looked at it the other day. The only real difference from the "old" point is that the parking lanes are still pointing uphill. I'm guessing that the COE's intended plan is that if you have just launched your boat, you'll drive up the ramp... then drive around the circle...then head back down so you can pull into a parking space head first. As of now, I think the biggest problem will be that there will be two camps of boaters...those who insist on backing into the parking lanes and those who prefer to pull in head first. I suppose either way will work, but there could be an issue on busy days when both approaches are being used. I expect a cluster...umm, I mean a big jam on Memorial Day and I plan on getting a good seat on the sidelines to watch the entertainment. Someone who has a good video camera should film any events and maybe send the COE a copy as proof that the improvements didn't help????

Yes, it will be a cluster @#$%. Always is on Memorial Day weekend. I plan on not even parking in the lot if I can.

Watching rookies with trailers is a favorite past time of mine! Who needs baseball?
