Content. IE5
From a previous discussion here, this is the folder that keeps tabs on what you inquire about and causes the little pop up thingys to happen at the
top and bottom on this web site and others. I suppose I shouldn't care but it bugs the heck out of me that someone is watching. I empty that folder on
a pretty regular basis and they still happen, which leads me to believe that the little buggers are hidden. Where are they and can it be prevented? Or
is it just a lost cause? By the way I am somewhat technologically challenged.

Jaybird, do you have the Google Toolbar? (free download from google) It has a very effective "Pop-up Blocker" built-in.
I belive this link will help you:
http://www.you-niversity.com/help/popup/popups.htm
ADDED: You mention "IE 5" I believe that Internet Explorer 9 is the current version --also a free download/upgrade.

Jaybird, I am no Computer Expert but I have finally figured out what you mean about "Content". Duh! It has been a long time since I used IE5
With Win7 and IE9, here is the correct procedure to delete "Temporay Internet Files":
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/View-temporary-I...
BTW, the "Google Ads" that you see at the top and bottom of the LC.com pages are not determined by the settings on your computer.
I will now step aside and let one of our "Computer Experts" like E_Hillman or Squak give you some "professional" help....

The folder Jaybird speaks of exist with IE5, 6, 7, and 9
It is hidden for most and you have to know the path to get to it.
Even when you empty your temporary internet files the files remain in the content.ie5 folder.
With each OS there is a little different path but for most it is something like:
C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR USER PROFILE FOLDER NAME\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5
With Windows7 there were even more folders such as the Application Data folders (C:\Users\userid\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\History
) added and other data collection points. I don't feel like looking them all up now but they too do not get deleted when you "properly" delete your
temporary internet files. With WinXP deleting your temp files AND the IE5 folder should get you pretty well other than people being able to undelete
your harddrive unless it is zeroed. For many they will look empty but still
have deep hidden files in them. One trick if you are not good at using shells is to go to another networked PC and then go to the other PC via the
network $ share.
Anyway for the most part ya just have to give up... lol

That is pretty much what I thought. Time to suck it up, I guess. I just thought if they were accessible by someone and they apparently are, I could
trash'em.
