Wake at Grider

I am ready to get pictures and post boat names of the a$$holes that keep coming in on a runabout to their houseboat. They do it all the time. Not sure why they think they are above others here.
How would you all handle it? What if you say something to them and they are defensive and nasty:mad:?

Take pics and call law enforcement on them. How can anything be denied if you have pictures??

- I would go over to their houseboat when they come in and not say much of anything. Although
- I would be holding a cordless drill in my hand with a large drill bit attached to it.

I would ask only if they knew they were throwing a large wake and did they intend to do anything to correct it.

- If they said they would stop doing it, I would thank them and quietly walk away.
- If they gave me some lip about it, I would hold up the cordless drill into the air
and squeeze the trigger a couple of times.

I would then turn and walk away not saying anything further.

Having a large wood drill bit attached to the drill (as shown below) is somewhat more impressive
as it rotates in the air and it gets the point across better.

Note:
Your actual choice of bits may change depending upon the recommended best practices for the
material being drilled when the time comes, i.e., aluminum, steel, fiberglass, etc.

A few weeks ago, Hubby and I were in a rental out on the lake and returned to GHD for the customer appreciation party that evening. We were tied up on 'rental row' when a single individual arrived at the ramp to launch ski boat. He had trouble starting it and keeping it running. After about ten attempts, he finally got it running and gunned it from the launch ramp dock. That rocked us -- and everyone else, of course -- pretty good.

What's the matter with these people?

Go for it Poore Ole Peddler! And I too think video would be even better since you could show the boat coming in and then the resulting wake and rocking all in one seemelss feed which would be hard to dispute. ;)

I have come to the conclusion, people (for various reasons) don't or just flat stop thinking about
the impact their actions may have on others.

Either they are:
- so self-centered, other people just don't matter to them (Paris Hilton comes to mind)
- something may be demanding their attention to the point they totally dismiss or forget about
basic courtesy and respect they should have for others (their engine is difficult to start so they
gunned it from the launch ramp)

There are thousands of other examples and we all see it every day. Heck, we may at one time
or another even be guilty of this indiscretion ourselves. So what should we do?

If given the opportunity:
- politely discuss or show these people the errors of their ways (use photos / videos, if possible)
- at all times endeavor to provide them with a good example to follow
- take photos and report them to Law Enforcement, especially if they are arrogant or dangerous
- have pity on them, for they may really have no clue what the heck they are doing or the
misery or damage they may be responsible for causing.
- always follow the Golden Rule

Tell Grider management that either this boaters action changes or you will be looking for another marina.

You'd be surprised how many grown adults don't understand the term "no wake", and "slow no wake". Unless someone is going to take the time and expense to post "harbor rules" and what they mean-- (basic terminology only, no need to post the meanings of port, bow, stern, etc.) at all entry points of harbor and launch ramps, you cannot guarantee understanding and the consequences/liability. Doesn't mean they aren't guilty-- just ignorant.

I got the impression the ski boat owner to whom I referred knew exactly what he was doing. I think he was PO'd at his POS boat and took out his frustration by gunning it from the ramp. It was only for the short stretch until he had to make the left-right zigzag to get out to the main north-south waterway, but it sure tossed us around for a spell.

I hope it made him feel better.
