A glowing endorsement for Fort Wahoo (near Wolf Creek Marina)

I had the pleasure of staying at Fort Wahoo a couple of weekends ago, and wanted to pass along my experience to the rest of my lake friends looking for a great place to stay VERY close to a marina (WCM). There are four rental cabins at Fort Wahoo. All 4 are nearly identical, with the exception of one that has a hot tub, and all have 2 bedrooms downstairs (one queen and one full) and a loft with two twins. The cabins rent for $120/night during peak season, with reduced rates in the offseason. All the cabins are basically brand new and very clean. The setting is very nice, and there is lots of space between the cabins and plenty of room for boat parking, etc.

In addition to the cabins, there is a picnic shelter with a massive charcoal grill, lights and electric. There is also a basketball and sand volleyball court, and if you have young kids, and awesome wooden ship playhouse that my kids spent hours in while we were hanging out under the picnic shelter.

If you have a large group looking to go the lake, and can't find a house that sleeps 20+, think about renting 3-4 of these cabins. Everyone has their own space, bathrooms, kitchens, but a great common gathering place at the picnic shelter. Would also be great for a family reunion, etc. during the offseason.

The place is family run, and the owners take great pride in building and maintaining a great resort. I will definitely be booking there again!

PS-> I have no affiliation with the owners, just like to promote a business that provides a much needed service to all of us that love the lake: clean, well furnished, and reasonably priced cabins!

(If you have any other questions, post them here or U2U me and I will answer them here. Others that have stayed there feel free to contribute your experience, good or bad)

They do have a website, just google Fort Wahoo Cabins Lake Cumberland for contact info, etc.

Thanks for the good post and good report Chillaxin! Its always nice to hear positives about the lake area. We'll take the negatives too but the positives are just nicer to read about.

I had never heard of Ft. Wahoo! Sounds interesting. ;)

I'll reconfirm Chillaxiin. Cousin Ronnie and I and some other friends of mine stayed there this past weekend. I also rented some there this winter for my father's b-day party. VERY clean, very nice, very well run. The Bates are very nice people.

(I also have no financial interest or any association with them or the cabins; although I do purport to have an affinity for everything Jabez). ;)

Two thumbs up on Fort Wahoo! It's a little bit of a different drive, but it might be worth it.

P.S. also took my friends to Harris Grocery (/bait shop/gas station/restaurant/hardware store/boat rental office/ice cream shop/gossip center) in Jabez for breakfast Sat morning. 4 out of 5 stars on the biscuits & gravy, sausage and eggs. (would have been 5 out of 5, but Cousin Ronnie showed up (yes, you are responsible for who you allow in your business) and it still ain't momma's B&Gs.) All were pleased with their food and service.

Good point JabezBoy... I love Harris' as well, and worth mentioning related to the original post, there is a "pretty much anything you need, including gas" store in Harris' about 5-6 miles from Ft. Wahoo.

Case in Point: I had a slow leak in my boat trailer tire a couple of weeks ago and found out I had a screw in the tire. Billy, who works for Teddy Harris, went in, got a tire plug kit, and plugged my tire. Cost me a 16 oz Mountain Dew for his service. Great people down there all around.

LOL! I guess we know why they decided against 'The Bates Motel' and went with Ft. Wahoo, huh?

This place is really coming along nicely! The newest addition (the big cabin) is a real nice accent to the already well-kept grounds. Those boat sheds are HUGE! Anyone know how much they rent for?

$600/year is what I understand. I THINK he is full though, but not sure. He only had 2 left early last fall.

Standard charge for the year on the Jabez side. Teddy Harris has even bigger boat sheds with concrete floors for same price, but they are 'in town' vs. right there at the top of the WCM ramp road.
BUT, the benefit of those is that you pass the gas pump each time. The benefit of the Bates storage sheds is that they are right at the top of the ramp road, but you are buying marina gas all the time.

Or driving out to Harris to get gas which would be less mileage than driving to and fro all the time regardless if you need fuel or not! ;)

Ok. LC crew - note the typing above from Cousin Ronnie. Your options are:

A.) he had been overserved when he wrote that;
B.) his 2nd grade boys were not available to write it for him;
C.) that is an accurate reflection of his writing ability; or
D.) All of the above.

"Dat boy .... he don't have what dey call .... da social skilz"

BUT, he is right on one thing - Jabez Resort is a hidden treasure that only a chosen few should experience. Not everyone is capable of absorbing all of its beauty.

Look at your maps. Jabez Resort makes the Vanderbilt house pale in comparison.

Ask Islander 212.

But similar to the Vanderbilt Mansion, only a privileged few get to stay there.
