Wayne County's Tourism Numbers are UP.
Wayne County Outlook
Local News
May 31, 2011
As summer travel and tourism season fast approaches, Wayne County received some great news earlier this month, as Kentucky's Travel and Tourism
Industry released their economic impact numbers for the past year.
Wayne County, a member of the Southern Lakes and Rivers Region, increased travel direct expenditures from $18,285,164 in 2009, to
$19,269,345 last year, while total travel expenditures also increased to $30,291,410, after totaling $28,744,278 the previous year.
"I think this shows our marketing efforts are paying off and we hope those numbers continue to improve. We increased over 5.4 percent, which is
above the state average," said Wayne County Judge-Executive Greg Rankin.
Wayne County finished fourth in the 10-county Southern Lakes region, as Pulaski County paced the area with $70,698,113, followed by Taylor,
Russell and Wayne counties. Adair, Clinton, Cumberland, McCreary, Casey and Green counties, rounded-out the list.
"Our Southern Lakes Region has the second highest growth of the nine regions across the state. The only region better was the Bluegrass and they
hosted the World Equestrian Games, so I think that speaks very well for this area. We want to continue to market Wayne County and Lake Cumberland in
our target areas. I really think we can have an even better year in 2011," said Wayne County Development/Tourism Director Shannon Hutchinson.
The economic study and impact was prepared by Certec, Inc. for the Kentucky Tourism, Arts and Heritage Cabinet and was released earlier this
month.

This is great news! Just think how much better it would be if gas prices were reasonable and people could afford to drive their car/truck to the lake
to use their boats more often! Oh yeah, let's not forget about how the dry counties could prosper and generate untold money in taxes and business
ventures if they would legalize alcohol sales....
