Authorities searching for Zollicoffer Cemetery vandals
Don't understand why someone would desecrate a cemetery! If your stealing for money, drugs, etc. a cemetery would not be high on my list of possible
targets. Oh well, don't have to be smart to be a vandal.

Somerset — County authorities and employees at the Mill Springs Battlefield Association are hoping someone will be able to help them nab the vandals
who have been plaguing Zollicoffer Park for the last week.
MSBA administrator Gilbert Wilson and assistant administrator Karyn Branham say someone stole the flag near the Confederate cemetery at Zollicoffer
Park last week.
“To do so, they also cut the rope off that hangs the flag,” Branham said.
In order to replace the flag, the administrators had to summon help from South Kentucky RECC. A bucket truck was needed to install the new rope and
flag on the 30-foot pole.
While the MSBA employees were still mulling over who might have committed last week’s crime, they learned that someone had taken the donation box from
the Zollicoffer Park property and had placed it at the bottom of the boat ramp at Pulaski County Park, presumably over the weekend.
“The maintenance staff immediately retrieved the donation box,” Branham said.
Fortunately, they had recently taken the money out of the box, but the vandals had attempted to drill holes in the box to try to retrieve any money
which could have been inside.
“The lock and 150 pounds of concrete used to install it were still intact,” Branham said, adding that it took three people to lift the box and the
attached concrete in order to return it to the MSBA. For that reason, Branham is assuming several people were involved in last weekend’s theft.
“They had to dig it up in order to take it away from there,” Branham said.
The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the incidents, and the MSBA is offering a $1,000 reward for information which leads to the
arrest and conviction of the individuals responsible for the crimes.
Branham says the park is under surveillance.
The MSBA, a non-profit organization, doesn’t currently have the funds to replace the vandalized items.
“We will have to go to our members and ask for help,” Branham said.
Anyone with information should contact the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department at (606) 678-5145.
