A very old piece of Russell County history up at auction

*hope I didnt violate real estate rules...meant as historical information only.

Piece of local history up at auction
In Sept. 16 Issue

Lake Cumberland Real Estate & Auction will hold an auction Saturday and with it goes a piece of Russell County history. In fact, a very old piece of Russell County history.

One of the oldest houses in Russell County, estimated to have been constructed around 1790, was moved from the Creelsboro area in 1968 to the present site it stands today.

The old home, claimed to be one of the first houses in the Creelsboro area , consisted of large yellow poplar logs, and was moved and reconstructed as near as possible to replicate the original structure.

Claude Kean was the builder of the home in 1968 and while the house was kept near original, plumbing and electricity was incorporated through the logs during construction.

The home will be sold at auction Saturday, Sept. 18th, 1 p.m. for the Smith family.

During the past 42 years, the house has had various owners with various additions being made, but the historical part of the house remains, much the original as it began in the 1700s.

Much of the interior of the house abides with the original logs being exposed. Lake Cumberland Real Estate and Auction invites you to come prior to the action and re-live a few moments from the past history of the county.

The house is located on Hwy 127, just south of Jamestown

We have my Great Great Great Great Great Grandfather's Cabin on our farm still standing that was built between 1790 and 1792 but it could use some work... I used to stay in it all the time when I was a kid.

(The two story part was added in the 1830s)

Thanks!

Like I said it needs a lot of work Two of the original panes are out of the back window :( And it needs a lot of mud work. It was all find till a few years ago and I am not sure why we lost so much. Maybe animals.. It used to have a HUGE 10' wide x 4' deep on the inside fireplace on the right end of the log part when my father's mom was little but for 40 years that part of the farm was owned by someone else and they too the floors out of the 2 story part just leaving the double sided chimney in the middle of it and the outter walls and they took the big fire place down. Why in the world someone would do that I don't know but i head they used the stone on a rock road on the farm.
