Didja ever wonder why

Didja ever wonder why the Corp. from Dallas that owns Burnside Marina doesn't build a restaurant w/ booze on the water or on the shore? (like Lees Ford)

Since Burnside became 'wet' it seems like a no brainer.

But, having been there for years, it's just another no brainer (like dock maint.+improvement and building a breakwater that doesn't break wakes)...I guess I understand...:(

Do ya think anyone from Burnside Marina/Marina's Intl reads the FORUM???

Great location in a "wet" area yet no modernization/maint. and no on water dining facility. Makes you wonder why the corporation even bothers - they can't be pulling that much money out of it can they?

Where would they build such a place? The big thing to remember is that the income would be seassonal. If there was such a local demand for this the laws would have been changed long ago.

I don't think this is true from a seasonal standpoint. I know it would be less in the winter for sure, but we go to Lee's Ford in the winter just to be by the water and have a bite and a drink. And sometimes it is a fairly good size crowd, again not like summer but a stream of customers.

Restaurants... Jury still out at Grider. they have made good improvements in the new restaurant on the dock... still miss the Lodge Restaurant. Hard to replace that. Will look forward to giving them a try this year. Boaters will just about use any excuse to go somewhere.... Beaver... needs a BBQ on the dock. Burgers and Dogs...

I probably used the new GHD grill more this past year than all previous years combined. Easy to get to, fairly quick, decent prices, and good food. Thumbs up as a dock side grill.

Would still like to see the lodge open up again, later on when things pick up, for more upscale dining.

I was the city clerk/treasurer for Burnside when the moist thing came about. Not that I did it, but I handled it for those who did it. The marina people who were there at the time told me directly that Burnside Marina was used as a "loss operation" to cover some "tax things" back at corporate headquarters. No idea if that was or is true, but that is what they told me. They could build their restaurant on a foating dock because the city limits there, even the 'old' city limits extend out to where they were when Old Burnside existed. The corps took the town, closed it, moved it, etc, but they never did amend the city limits survey. ??? Just a dusty little memory that I had to look up one time.

That's the attidude that convinced me to leave Burnside. My family had a boat docked there continually from the mid 50s till 2009. I was raised there. I couldn't stop the decline, but I could sure stop watching it. :(

Isn't the marina considered over the COE property line? I would assume the "wet" area of Burnside doesn't apply down on the docks in an area controlled by the COE.

This also makes one wonder how a County can assess property taxes when the boat is legally floating on COE controlled property..Which is Federally owned? ? ?

At the time we did the research on that project, there was a person who wanted to "lease" the rights from the marina corp. to open and operate a steak house on a special made dock. The corps approved the idea at that time. They reserved final approval in regards to how things (grease) etc might be handled, but business licenses, building permits, and other "city" things still apply because the marina lies within the city limits. Just like sales tax is collected .... state level, of course, but corps does not try to over-ride city/county legal functions. They also do not cede their rights .... such as trimming trees, access roads, etc.

BTW, the marina corps advised the person who wanted to lease the rights to build and operate a restaurant under the marina's umbrella was told-at that time- that the marina corp. had 'no interest' in being connected with any food service operation except their sandwich stand and ice cream counter.

I have thought about opening up a restaraunt on LC. My friends constantly encourage me to open one - somewhere! It would be so cool to do the two things I love in life together - cook and spend my time at LC.

If I remember right it was announced that Fat Man's Barbeque was going to operate the resturant at Burnside Marina. That was either shortly before Fat Man closed or right after he reopened. Don't know if that ever happened.
