The boat and engine did exactly what the driver told them to do.
I would say, the reason the boat threw the driver out was because the boat thought the driver was an idiot.

I saw this one time at Turkey Bay on Kentucky Lake. While we were camoing there another group came in. One guy came full speed in a ski boat heading to shore through several kids swimming and as he neared shore he moved to the bow and jumped off when the boat hit. The boat wound up about 15 feet up on shore. Don't know how they got it back to the water as we packed up and left. There are sure some crazies out there and I don't care to be part of it.
