London Dock 12-27-09
Pic of the confluence of the Rockcastle River and Lake Cumberland at London Dock.
The water was up and moving rather swiftly. Did manage to check on the Old London Dock / New Beaver Creek. There seemed to be an old fiberglass
Houseboat against the bank about 1/2 mile downstream.
Other than that, any day on the water is a good one!

Strange thing I noticed while traveling in E. KY this weekend and it seems like a similar thing is happening in the above picture is that one stream
is clear and the other is muddy. I would have thought both streams would be muddy. I assume the answer is one drainage area got more snow than the
other.
Thanks for the pics 907 and your right...any day on the water is a good one.

I noticed that as well. Came to conclusion it was snow melt. If snow melt was slow and streams did not run swift it stayed very clear.
I like all boats I see and some people I meet!

Is there a house in your picture that appears to be surrounded by water? Is this normal?

That was a house / shed contraption that was part of London Dock. I guess they have not moved it yet?

I think that is the main marina building for the London Dock CoyneOp. There used to be slips going left and right at that point.
They had some major damage from a flood a few years ago and it washed a lot of slips and boats downstream almost to Burnside.
I thought they had gotten back on their feet and was back as a marina again. Due to the lack of slips and boats in the picture... maybe not.
Edited: I see 907 posted before I did. Thanks again 907! Glad your on board.

Actually, the little house is an old fishing shack used by the locals.

Hey EZ is there a London Dock/Marina at all now? Is it possible to get there and not bust a prop on the motor with the 680' lake level? Can you get
gas there?
I just assumed that building was part of the main marina since the location is very close to where it used to be.
I've been wanting to take a long boat ride up there for a while now but the weather, lake level and gas funds have always scared me off.

Saw your post today 907 about london dock at beaver creek. can you tell me if this is perment or temp. I have always used it and can't find anything
about it. I talked to last owners and nothing for sure. I understand the dock and covered slips were just stored there just for safty. The shed still
anchored was a work and storage place. I sure miss this dock for I have used it for over 50 years.

Last I heard, the new owner of London Dock was wanting to move it to the current location, and was in the process of getting permits for a road
from the USFS.
I made the trip from Burnside to the old ramp at London dock this summer, and had no problems. You do need to watch the contour of the banks as it
gets shallow, but I think I was in more than 10 feet of water at the shallowest point.
I saw the owner of Sheltowee Trace Outfitters on the Ramp at London Dock in the fall and one can only hope that he works something out to become the
consessionaire for the London Dock Campground. They have a really neat thing going on, and I think he could really make London Dock something to be
proud of.
However, be careful while using the ramp there. You can load and unload ok, but it seems to have been overlooked during all the ramp repairs due to
the lower water.

I remember growing up fishing out of London Dock and Beaver Creek. I have many happy memories of that area when the Parmans ran the operation.
However, time and tide waits for no man and the only thing that is certain is change. I'm sure that there are many others who remember when London
Dock was in its heyday. In the spring, one could go up to Baldrock and catch the biggest walleye this country has ever seen as they miagrated up the
Rockcastle to spawn.
