World's Largest Cruise Ship

Thought some of you boaters would like to see whats new in cruise ships. This is "Oasis of the Seas" and is 5 times bigger than the Titanic. Holds 6,300 passengers and 2,000 crew members.
Over 20 stories tall she had to clear a bridge in Denmark to get out of her home port and only cleared it by 2 ft. Whoa!

Ok. So I am getting to be an old foagie, but EVEN IF IT WERE FREE, I would still rather be on a houseboat on Lake Cumberland with my friends for a long weekend.

Talking about your bee itching on LC.com the next day. :P

I'm partying with JabezBoy too! Unfortunately, he is expecting twins in the future. Something tells me his party time is going to take a sharp drop. :D

If it were on Cumberland, the lake would be back to normal pool. I hear it holds over six thousand guests. I bet their lifeboat drills are pure hell. I would hate to be one of the last few people to disembark because if it was sinking I would be in heaven or hell about five hours before my turn came in the lifeboat. Just what day does each neighborhood get to disembark when the boat reaches home port? Anyhow, I too like my lil' boat and LakeCumberland.Com, and my wife and kids.....and some money so that we can go coving.

Just looking at that sucker.. It's very tall and the lifeboats are not that far from the water.. If it began listing, I wonder if the top deck would crush the lifeboats before they could clear the ship..?

$1.3 Billion is a lot of money and you still have to contend with 5999 "fellow passengers" and 2000 crew just to get around.

Yep, a houseboat (probably smaller than any of those lifeboats) is more my style.
Anyway, a boat, no matter how large, only sleeps two -comfortably.;)

Waterwings,

My partying may be limited next summer...that just means it will be more 'intense'. Actually, things are looking up. If mother-in-law moves here from upstate NY, that may give me free rein to take the boys (7 & 4) and go boating more next summer! I am hopeful.
Otherwise, you are correct. My boating will be limited to a radio controlled boat in our pool, or worse, our bathtub for a couple of years.

Hang in there JabezBoy! Yeah, sometimes instead of partying often you just have to party harder when you can. :D

Radio controlled boats are not too bad. Still, its like Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell says "Ain't nothing like the real thing, Baby."

Be sure to feed those boys and them new ones some of that "pickle dawg bologna".:D

I do well with the m-i-l Denmarkshepards! A rarity I realize, but since her daughter had never dated anyone who could keep a job or wasn't on unemployment before she met me, the m-i-l thinks I am great! :-)
Throw in some great gifts by me from time to time, some great family vacations where I pay for m-i-l, add some healthy understanding by m-i-l that I made it before her and i can make it after her, and its all good!
As I have been known to say from time to time to my wife: "I grew up in a trailer park between two housing projects and I ain't afraid to go back! How bout you?"
(Note: not that i WANT to go back, but i ain't afraid of it!)

Got to wondering why this was considered the largest "cruise" ship in the world and not the largest ship period.
Apparently it depends if your talking about length or volume and then it depends up class, ie cargo, tanker, passenger or military.

But from my research (OK... wikipedia) the largest ship in the world is the "Knoch Nevis" a Supertanker.
It is 1,504 ft long or 381 ft longer than the Oasis of the Seas.
Oasis of the Seas is 1,187 ft long.
USS Enterprise is 1,123 ft long. Largest military ship afloat.

Poor little Enterprise is only 1,123 ft long but carries a big punch.

Thats what I always told my wife about our 22' Pachanga "it's a nice boat for two" then we moved up to a 29' cruiser and realized we still have a nice boat for two.

Boating at Lake Cumberland. Life at it's Finest. 86 Sea Ray Pachanga and a 91 27 Sea Ray Sundancer.......... No matter where I go there I am

Wonder if thrusters were on the standard equipment list?

Even the small cruise ships have thrusters. They can sure stir the bottom silt and sand up when in shallow water. It's a great experience to take a cruise. We always get a balcony stateroom. Get out away from land and you will see the most beautiful blue water. If you haven't done a cruise to the Caribbean, that should be your first choice. Then go on a second to Alaska.
