USS New York
Many of you may have missed this yesterday. The new fast attack ship USS New York made its maiden voyage from Norfolk, VA to New York city, where it
paused in the Hudson River and offered a 21 gun salute just offshore of the twin towers site.
I watched the 3 minute clip that made it in the TODAY show. The camera angle showed the ship in the river as seen from atop another building with the
twin towers site in the foreground. It brought back a lot of mermories. I assume that is why the event went noticeably un-reported.
This ship had a section of the keel built from the steel salvaged from the twin towers. It was also named the USS New York in honor of the site. There
are 2 or three other ships in the works as well named for the PA crash site and Washington, if I remember correctly.
I just thought it deserved more reporting than what it got.
Here is a link to a NY Times article on it with a video.
