Hello Everybody!
Hello Everybody! I'm sorry that I didn't have an earlier opportunity to post this, but things have been a real mess around here lately.
When we first got back from out there I had a bad case of "Montezuna's revenge". I must have gotten some dirty creek water in my mouth while
collecting geodes from creeks near cattle lots or something. I was sick for over a week and then, just as I wasv feeling better,my 79 year old father
started falling down. He kept refusing to see a doctor until he fell and knocked himself out cold. We called an ambulance and, even though he refused
to go with them, they helped us convince him to at least see his own doctor. She took one look and ordered him to the ER. Now he has been diagnosed
with advanced lung cancer from his 50+ years of smoking. His doctor says that he won't survive surgery, but the oncologist wants to operate antway.
We have no idea what direction to go in!
I do want to take this opportunity to thank Bubbles for letting us take some of her pet geodes. I also want to thank Denmarkshepherds for offering to
let us collect some at his place. Unfortunately, our stupid hotel never pased along his messages to me so we never got together! I hope to come back
out there eventually as it is really nice! I also plan on posting a more detailed report on our trip on this forum. Right now I am cleaning our
treasures betyween my father's doctor's appointments.
Take it easy everybody, Earl the Geode Hunter

I wish that I could!
Hin Scarlet and thanks for your concern.I wish that I could just go to Lake Cumberland, but I live 850 miles away in Connecticut. We had a great time
out there in early October on vacation, but unfortunately we had to come back to Connecticut. We really like it out there and we do want to return
someday.Eventually we are planning on leaving Connecticut permanently and Kentucky is certainly on our short list of places to consider relocating
to.
For right now we have to figure out what sort of treatment is best for my dad.He is in poor overall health and his regular doctor says that surgery
will kill him.The Oncologist still wants to start cutting, though!Doctors drive me nuts!

I'm sorry to hear about your Dad. My family dealt with something similar about 8 weeks ago. Two things made us decide not to have our 93 year old
Mother's surgery (bleeding on the brain that had stopped). The first was a really nice older ER doctor that was honest and told my husband and I she
could never survive surgery and the second was a heart specialist that said 2/3rds of her heart was dead from 2 heart attacks she never knew she had
(her symptoms had been pain between the shoulder blades). But.... the neurologist still wanted to operate and actually showed up 2 days after our
decision questioning our choice.

Doctors
Hi Slipperywhenwet_too!I'm just glad that you encountered some honest doctors who were truthful with you.Sadly, many doctors just want to go full
speed ahead without considering the quality of life that the patient will have even if they survive the procedure.Right now we are going to do a PET
scan to see how far the cancer has spread and if any kind of surgery is feasible. We have had quite a few bad experiences with doctors over the years
so I have doubt issues with everything that they propose.I am researching all of the procedures before we do anything. My dad's heart is only working
at 25% and he is in poor overall health as he doesn't manage his diabetes control at all.I guess that time will tell.
Hi Modockin! My dad is certainly a fighter, but that is not necessarilly a good thing. He fights us on everything. He will not take care of himself and it
is nearly impossible to get him to cooperate with his doctors.(He damned his regular doctor to last year when she wanted him to go for some test!)He
will not even change his clothes or bathe most of the time so it is a constant struggle.

Sorry we couldnt get together GH, but you have a standing invitation. Some people that speak American have a hard time understanding our slang, non
less some turbin wearing zipperheaded motel clerks/owner. Hope everything goes good for pops.

Hi Denmarkshepherds and thanks for the standing invite!I really would like to come back to Kentucky in the near future, but my dad needs me right now.I
am not sure what the future holds due to his cancer, but, even if they somehow cure it,he is getting too old to be by himself for long.I will keep in
touch and see if I can get out there again one of these days.
As far as understanding people out there,I am from Connecticut and I had no problems with the local accent!(Nobody out there seemed to
have any problems understanding what we had to say, either!)I think that the people at the hotel were just lazy and not wiling to do ANYTHING to help
out their guests!
Have a great Thanksgiving out there,Everybody!
