I was seeing slow downs and had a couple lock ups only on LC.com the last week but never saw any popups. All has been fine the past couple of days
with no lockups
All PCs were XP with IE8

Pourme, are you still having problems on your computers? Good to hear that it is working OK on the Blackberry. It's also working fine on my
iPhone.. anyone else?
LCNN is an the alert and your input is valuable --even if you just tell us that things are working fine. |
It seems okay today. Yesterday it was isolated to certain threads but they are working now. Thanks

I am at home & on my laptop. The pop-up problem as well as the last post problem appear to have been eliminated on this computer. Will check my
computer at work in the morning & hopefully it is fixed there as well. Thanks for all the hard work that must have been required to correct the
problems. Your efforts are appreciated!!!

Yes. Temporarily.
A few other features have also been deactivated temporarily while the Whizzos screen, scrub & validate the forum software. Everything should be back
as it was very soon.

It must not be a question they either don't know or don't want to answer. I know all the big gun's have been online and no answer.

No, you computer has not been compromised. If your computer is functioning normally, then I don't believe you have any problems or you would have
said something before now.
What LCNN has stated is:
someone hacked into our system and put some pretty nasty code in there that would do some very bad things. In essence, our system was hacked, not
yours. Your anti-virus software detected the problem and provided a warning to you and everyone else.
I am sure, if there was any problem which could have affected your computer, LCNN would have stated this fact and provided us with recommendations.
He did state that you might want to flush your temporary internet files or 'cache' from whatever browser that you are using just in case something
is still lingering around in your temp files. This can be accomplished by clicking on the HELP button for instructions for deleting your temporary
internet file / cache for your particular web browser.
Doing this deletion should eliminate any possible problems with the your cached files and prevent any further problems when you log on to the
forum.
In addition, is you experience any further problems with viewing the forum, please post notification of this fact in this thread.

squakmeister I read your answer to be, that it is possible our computers have pick up something from Lakecunberland.com. Is that correct?

When you visit any website on the internet, your computer can download cookies and internet files. These files contain information about the website
which allow the webpages to load faster, etc. They remain cached (stored) on your computer until deleted or erased by other files when your caching
capacity has been reached.
These file can contain viruses, but in our case, these files contained code which distored the operation of the forum's software. Your computer was
in no way damaged by these files, they simply messed up how the forum operated in your web browser.
To preclude any further problems which you may experience when visiting the forum, it is recommended you delete these files so that your computer can
download the undisturbed files and prevent further problems when you log on to the forum. Again, this was a forum problem and not a problem with your
computer.

To the contrary about not knowing or not caring, I simply hadn't been online to answer your question. To put it simply, there was never a threat to
anyone's computer.
There is a reason we asked for everyone to delete your temporary internet files, but it has nothing to do with the safety of your own computer.
Browsers like Internet Explorer will save your history for the main purpose of you being able to surf the web faster. Every time you visit lc.com or
any website, your browser checks to see if you've been there before by looking at your cookie files.
If you have visited the page before, it will load everything that is saved from your temp files instead of trying to download it from the internet
again. That improves the speed in which a page will load.
The reason we asked to delete your temp files is that your browswer may have been trying to load the old buggy version of the lc.com. For some of you
who were getting annoyed by pop-ups, it's possible that those pop-ups would have continued had you not deleted the old lc.com home page and loaded
the shiney new bug-free one.
Again, it had nothing to do with any dangers to your computer. It was just to make sure that lc.com was loading on your computer without any issues.
My apologies for not setting this straight sooner.

No problems, was getting nervous when I noticed you and several mods were on line and did not answer what I would have thought to be a thread you were
interested in. I also u2u a mod and got no answer so I reached the wrong conclusion.
I guess I don't know you were on line, Who's Online page showed you to be and reading threads.

I can't speak for the moderators, but I have a bad habit of not signing out. I leave a browser window open on my desktop 99% of the the time as
well. And since I could be anywhere between 3 or 4 computers at different locations, the chance that I could leave a browser window open to lc.com
and not logged out is very likely. I'll try and log out more frequently when I'm not on LC.com to avoid any confusion.
What I can say about the moderators (and myself) is that this isn't our full-time job. We are all doing our best to make this a working and
welcoming Lake Cumberland community for everyone while still trying to work a 9 to 5, taking care of children, etc. If you don't get an answer right
away, it could be for a number of reasons, but be assured it's not because nobody cares.
We appreciate all the input when there is an issue, because it helps us dig to the root of the problem as quickly as possible. Sometimes life does
have a habit of getting in the way of things, but we try to compensate the best we can. Thanks for your patience and understanding....

I agree and I'm not so sure he's not the one messing with us! He
always enjoyed doing stuff like that!!
Don't know if this has been addressed and may be part of the features not back on the forum but the orange box isn't highlighting the "you got (1)
new u2u message" in the upper right hand corner.
Yep, you are correct. That was one of the features that have been temporarily disabled during the "Software Bug of 2009". It, and the other
features will be back as soon as the whizzos are comfortable all the bugs are gone. C.B.
