Need to update Marine Radio Channels...

I had posted this a few years ago, and just found out this weekend that State Dock Had Changed. No matter how many times you call them on 18, they wont awnser...

Since some of the docks have since moved, and changed hands, anyone local to the docks know what they are now??

Maybe once we get it figured out one of the Mods will update the "Emergency" Link on the page...

????? (London Dock): (606) 864-5225 No Radio
Omega (Buck Creek): (606) 382-5542
Burnside: (606) 561-4223 Channel 70
Lees Ford: (606) 636-6426 Channel 16
Conley: (606) 348-6351 Channel 68
Beaver: (606) 348-7280 Channel 78
Cave Springs (Gator #1): (270) 866-3634 Channel 09
Gator #2: (270) 866-6616 Channel 06
Jamestown (270) 343-5253 Channel 14
State Dock: (800) 234-3625 Channel 23
Grider Hill: (606) 387-5501 Channel 68

Good post, its one of those things everyone needs to invest in (including myself) as we all know the lake can be very spotty on cell reception!

Thanks 907......definitely good info. The phone numbers are just as important too since most marinas won't answer the radio anyway.

I still don't understand why LFM uses the emergency channel as their operating channel but its been that way for years.

907...

State Dock is channel 24 for their high radio site they can hear from all over. They do still keep 18 on, but they will only hear you if you are very close to the marina on it. They used 23 during the OSS race simply because 24 was busy over that weekend.

Burnside marina uses 78, not 70.

I am sure London Dock info is not right, since they moved the dock. Any word from up river how it is going, and what the new name is??

Your correct kdfwr907.
I tried calling their telephone number, but it was disconnected and they don't have a website.

If anyone knows the folks that own London Dock, know if they have a new telephone number, or know if they monitor a marine radio channel, please U2U me and I will update the information.

In the meantime, I'll leave it as is. The telephone number may still be good when everything settles down for them.

We do our best to keep information (like this) up-to-date on LC.com but as you can imagine, things are always changing. We appreciate folks bringing these changes to our attention and, as soon as were are sure that we have the accurate information, we make the appropriate changes (and alert our readers accordingly).

At the moment I am re-evaluating the "Distance Chart" for any discrepancies and/or modifications. You won't believe the problems I have had convincing NASA, USGS, NOAA, NESDIS, Google and MapQuest (among others) to provide us with accurate, daily satellite images and distance calculations. Our readers deserve nothing but the most accurate information on these lake distances.

;)

Towboat,
Can you advise if these are still correct?

On Laurel Lake, Holly Bay is Channel 10 Grove is 5

Im sure you are still monitoring ch 16 from the high site, do you still work off of Channel 11?

Hopefully someone will re do the fancy cut and paste list with you added to it!

To my knowledge those channels on the list above are correct with the exception of Lee's Ford. I think they FINALLY started using something other than channel 16, but will have to verify it.

I still do not know why all the marinas do not monitor channel 16 and then switch their customer traffic to whatever their working channel is when called. That is the way it is supposed to be done. That way everybody can hear if there is an emergency call broadcast and help as needed.

When I was last on Cumberland, most of the marinas had 2 Marine radios. One on 16, one on their channel.

It seemed like the radio on 16 usually got turned down due to the chatter though..

We have two radios. Our main radio has always been set on 16 for as long as I can remember. We also monitor 72 but will only work when close to the marina. Channel 16 is an emergency, hailing, and distress channel. We get very little traffic on either radio now days with Cell Phones being so popular but if we are hailed on 16, we ask them to switch to 72 if in range.
