Wolf Creek Dam Update - Mar 11 09

Source: U.S. Army Corps of Engineers...

UPCOMING ACTIVITIES

• Continuation of guidewall construction in non-critical areas
and construction of the PCEW in Technique Area 1.

CONSTRUCTION REPORT:

Treviicos Soletanche JV has begun installation of the Protective
Concrete Embankment Wall (PCEW) in Technique
Area 1. The PCEW is the first stage of barrier wall
construction. It will extend through the earthen embankment
to top of rock and will reduce dam safety risk during
the remainder of construction.

Subcontractor Hayward Baker, Inc. is treating the overburden/
rock interface in Critical Area 1 with low mobility
grout.

Subcontractor Weddle Construction completed widening
of the work platform on the upstream embankment.
Weddle is also building New Ray Mann Road downstream
of the dam to enable the contractor to keep construction
traffic separate from the general public.

KS Ware is drilling and pressure testing verification holes
in the grouting gallery of the concrete portion of the dam.
The holes will be used to measure the permeability in
areas previously grouted.

65 instruments are now in the automated monitoring system.
Real time data can be viewed from remote locations
to see how the instruments respond to construction activities
in their immediate vicinity.

The Nashville District hosted the U.S. Society on Safe
Dams National Conference last week. The conference
included a visit to Wolf Creek Dam and a tour of the construction site.

WATER MANAGEMENT REPORT:

The elevation of Lake Cumberland on 04/30/09 was 681.15 and falling
about .1 to .2 of a foot per day. The discharge will be two units of generation
around the clock for the next several days. There is about 1.0 to
1.5 inches of rain predicted during the next three days. If the rain does
develop, it will probably be necessary to increase the discharge to limit
the rise and/or draw the pool down.
