Newbie boat classes--Cincinnati HELP?

This year's poker run was the first time that I got to pilot a boat. While I was with a veteran boater, he let me take control of the pontoon boat for a while. I made some mistakes (my apologies to the trollers). I really want to learn proper boating skills, but I don't own a boat (Yet!). It is really just a matter of time before we buy one, my wife has been talking about it since our second date! But it took a trip to LC to really light my fire for boating. Can anyone out there tell me if there where I can get some lessons here in Cincinnati. TIA!!!

Power Squadron

Check out the Cincinnati area Power Squadron at http://www.usps.org/localusps/cincinnati/

They will have classes, information, etc to help you get going.

If you get the Cincinnati Enquirer, the power squadron runs an add in the classified section under BOATS.

Boat is not reqired

A boat is not required to take the boating classes. These are informational classes generally taught in a "classroom" setting. Both the Power Squadron and USCG classes are intended to teach you "rules of the road" and some basic navigation. However, you will learn MUCH more than that.

The ol' Captain has said it about a hundred times before: Everyone who owns a boat (or who rents them) should take one of these courses.

The classes are not for "jokes". They are taught by serious instructors who know what they are talking about -- but, you will enjoy every minute of them.

There is a fee for the classes but, If you will check with your insurance agent, most people can save more on premiums in one year than the cost of the classes. ---Do It!
