The AP story is being carried by dozens of newspaper and sources in the US and is crossing into Canadian and some foreign publications.

Lake Cumberland will still be one of the largest lakes east of the Mississippi River. This needs to be injected into the news. Also the Corps should relax ATV rules while the lake is down. The potential for great riding along the lake at low levels would be a very good attraction. In fact it might be some of the best riding east of the Mississippi. Do I think our "rulers" will be progressive? Nope this is Kentucky..........Southforkwally

New York Times carried the AP story on their website today. Be interesting to see if there's an article in tomorrow's print addition.

I think it would be an excellent idea to open the lakebed up to ATVers. Just replace the boats with ATVs, maybe keep them below 700 ft or so. This could bring in a lot of tourists and money.

Wally though I rarely agree, and most just agree to disagree on many things with you, I will be the first to say AMEN to the relaxing the "OPERATION KILL JOY" AKA "OPERATION ONE MANS MISSION''. I understand the point that KDFW isnt in the offroad business, and therefore they cant regulate what goes on. i.e. license, insurance, etc etc but now seems like one Helluva time to get involved and get on the band wagon for them like so many of ORV's are doing.

BTW,
Offroad truck custom built, not counting personal man hours, $6,500
First offroad driving award, courtesy the KDFW, approx. $200.00
Knowing that I can drive an hour down the road and give another community my money, PRICELESS.

15 minutes of fame

On WDTN (ch.2) in Dayton the lake level story made the news...

The video looked to be taken from the road that leads onto the Burnside state park...

The video showed what appeared to be a houseboat sitting on the shoreline some where close to the marina.

I so glad we have this site to keep us informed, because if we only had the Cincinnati news. I would be driving to the lake in fear of losing everything.

Seems to be a lot of wrong information and rumors floating around. Well maybe "floating around" is not the right terminology here. Anyway, someone told me several stations in OH are reporting a 45' drop in lake level. They do not say it has already dropped 35' from summer pool. People are freaking out up north and rightfully so. The media is creating a panic.
These bonafide members of the OH Navy were ready to come and get their boats out of the mud..... if they could find a ramp open.

Actually, the level of the lake has been higher this January -- so far -- than January's low level in many years.

I think you could walk back into Party Cove and find it rather easily if it is past the bend near the jump.

In 1977 I drove my Dad's boat through the tunnel that will be visible in the bank up from Burside. I don't know if it was below 680 feet then, but we all got by with less water. But fewer and smaller boats then!
